Meditation Myths To Unlearn

I’ve been meditating my whole life.

Every long walk, I took in nature to clear my head.  Each workout that changed my mood. Or all the journaling I did to get things off my chest, were all different forms of meditation.

Something to remember…

You don’t have to be good at it, and you can’t get it wrong. 

Don’t worry about quieting your mind or trying to feel as still as a leaf falling from a tree on an autumn day. Merely showing up to observe what you’ve been thinking is the first step towards changing how you’ve been thinking.

The more you show up for your daily meditation practice, the less you will worry in your life.

Meditation is less about getting it right and more about getting wrong.

Say what now?! …

Getting it wrong means you’re trying, which is why it’s called a mediation “practice.” Strive for progress, not perfection.

Even as little as five minutes a day can begin to steer your mind back on course.

So don’t let the mess stop you from cleaning up. 

I get it; there’s constant chatter in your head. So what! Everybody’s got a running dialogue, but you’ve got to begin somewhere.

And forgiveness is a wonderful place to start.

Meditation, like exercising, requires you put in the work.  No one gets a six pack from doing one sit up. So, especially if you’re new to meditating, it will be tempting to judge your process. Resist that urge because on the other side of your discomfort is the change you’ve been seeking.
